INSTANTLY Make Your Home Cozy in 3 Steps
This weekend I hung these perfect frames in our living room. I cannot believe how it improved the feel of our home instantly! Our room went from squatter to home so quickly, haha! I am going to share how to make your home cozy.
I am hyper-focused on the feel of our home. Not just for visitors but especially/specifically for my family. I want our home to feel lived in and cozy. A place to relax, recharge and feel comfortable.
Through decorating I have noticed three things that instantly turned our house into a home. Since it is September and the beginning of the cozy intimate months with Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, I am sharing how you can make your home cozy and inviting, too.
These three elements define your space, tell your story, and help visitors see a little piece of your heart.
Paint
Choosing paint can be hard, but remember everything can be repainted. When we first bought our house the entry was so boring, just plain. I knew it needed paint and an accent wall to turn from house to home.
My Dad came up and helped me make and paint a dark gray board and batten wall in our dining area. As soon as we finished it felt like we took ownership of this home! The board and batten accent wall also set the tone for our home.
Area rug
An area rug is essential. I don’t care what anyone says, haha. An area rug will define your space, add color, and texture, and launch the vibe to the rest of the house. In our living room, I was floored (haha) by the improvement this one-piece gave to our space.
For me choosing an area rug was difficult, I’ll explain. I am not a professional home stylist. I typically just pick what I like. Until recently, most of the things I bought for our home didn’t match. I needed the rug to launch the rest of our home into my vision of a transitional/chinoiserie-styled home. The rug also had to have dark gray and pink. But mostly it had to go with the tan-ish leather couch we have.
This rug is what will allow me to mix and add color though out the rest of our home and especially our first level. I guess just felt a lot of pressure, haha. I found the perfect rug for us at TJ Maxx and it was UNDER $50! It has the feel I was searching for and it has a lot of colors to pull to mix and match thorough out the first floor.
Frames or Wall art
The MOST IMPROVEMENT was seen in a single step: wall art. Most of our home is undecorated. I would like to focus on one room at a time and I plan on building built-ins in our living room and (unbeknownst ? to my husband) turning our playroom into a mudroom. We will see when we get there, haha.? Would you like to see me do both?
Anyhow, wall art. Wall art can be art, photos, or even framed fabric. Your front room is what every visitor and Amazon deliverer sees as soon as they walk up or into your home. It is a window into your family. Wall art shows what your family loves! Showing candid pictures, professional pictures, abstract art, or even framed beautiful fabric helps to set the tone and turn a house into your home.
Personally, I believe the candid photos you hang on your wall show your visitors and your loved ones what you love most about them. Those are the pictures that speak the loudest when you look at them. It is the same with all wall art but especially candids.
Here are some of my favorite art pieces from around the web:
As always, I want to see your space when you put these three actionable steps into practice! Were you able to see what you were missing to make your home cozy?
