Who is Jesus? Day Five
Day 5:
How do we know this is the “correct” Christ? Resurrection
I am glad your back, Mama! We are getting into it good now. So far, we have learned Jesus’ birth fulfilled prophesy and his death did as well. It was prophesied the Christ will be raised from the grave before his body would begin to decay. (Psalm 16:10) Jesus spoke to his disciples about his death and he himself prophesied his resurrection. In Luke three Jesus says,
“31…[w]e are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. 32 He will be delivered over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him and spit on him; 33 they will flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.”
After Jesus was taken from the cross and placed in the tomb of Joseph, guards were placed outside of the tomb, so no one could steal body. –-Friends, Jesus and his followers weren’t the only people who know about the prophesies of the Christ. All Jews knew, it was part of their studies. Everyone was waiting on the Christ. They didn’t believe Jesus because others had come before him saying they were the Christ. The courts were taking precautions, because they didn’t want the followers to steal the body of Jesus and have someone else pretend they were Jesus.— Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to visit the tomb when they arrived guards were outside of the tomb protecting the body from vandals. Suddenly, there was huge earthquake, an angel appeared and rolled back the boulder that sealed the tomb. The angel frightened the guards so much they fainted. Mary and Mary looked inside of the tomb to see that it was empty. The angel told them “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.”
The Marys had to go tell the disciples, on their way they ran into the Christ himself, Jesus! Jesus told the Marys to have the disciples to meet him in Galilee. Jesus met with the disciples and later spent 40 days with them before being raised up into Heaven. (Acts 1: 3,9)
Question: Now, we have established Jesus is the Christ because fulfilled the prophesies for his birth, death, and resurrection. Jesus was sent to repair our relationship with God and to give us an opportunity to have an intimate relationship with Him. Have you taken the opportunity to thank Jesus for His sacrifice and invite Him into your life?
