How to rest and reset

Mama, are you looking for a new way to rest and reset? Here are a few ways I do!

how i rest and reset
  1. Read my Bible. The best way to start my day is open the Word. There isn’t one way to study the Bible. You can start by reading a book or use a topical study. I currently reading the book of Psalms. One of my favorite studies is No Other Gods by Kelly Minter. This study helps you to identify what you are putting in front of your relationship with Christ. Reading my Bible helps me to feel refreshed every morning.
  2. Go for a walk. Another way I am able to reset is to go for a walk. Fresh air and a little extra blood flow helps my brain to be clear of thoughts that are weighing on me.
  3. Journaling. When I have busy thoughts if I can slow down enough to write them out or make a list it acts as brain dump. My mind is free to get back to the things I want to focus on, my family!
  4. Plan a night out–without the kids. Find a babysitter so you and your husband can go on a date or plan a night out with your friends! My husband and I don’t do this enough, but every time we do we feel so refreshed!

Here are some ways that we can take care of ourselves throughout the day:

  1. Create a schedule–and stick to it. For me one of the ways my days get away from me is I deter from my schedule too much. I will check the ‘Gram and watch five too many stories. I will sit for “just a min” or I’ll “do ____ later”. I am really saying I should practice more self-control, because sometimes it isn’t the big things that are distracting us.
  2. Drink more water. We have heard this a billion times. It is true.
  3. Eat less added sugar. There are many studies on the negative side effects of added sugar, it is a little VERY alarming. Google it, but after you finish this list. 😉
  4. Go to bed on time! This is the hardest one for me. I try really hard to go to bed when my husband does. I honestly don’t know where this idea came from. He likes to stay up late, and so do I, but I know it will be harder for me to get up early like I like to.
  5. Say no. As women, generally, it is hard for us to say no. We are constantly being pulled in so many directions: volunteer here, drive there, join them over there. We want to do it all, but sometimes it is best to not do it all. Take some time for yourself and recoup. We aren’t machines and even then machines need to be reset.

I hope this helped you a tiny bit, Mama! These aren’t the only way to reset. Mama-care can be time in your favorite book, talking with a friend on the phone, watching your favorite show, or taking a nap! We have to take care of ourselves so we are better equipped to take care of others. I don’t know about you, but this Mama thing can be overwhelming! Whew!

I am looking forward to trying some of your suggestions on the ways you do mama-care. I can’t wait to report back!
