Three things to ask yourself when creating content
Do you ever feel stuck when it comes to brainstorming content creating Instagram or Facebook posts? If so, I can totally relate. Finding the balance of what to “niche” down to or if my posts are helpful to my audience. So I did some research, surprise surprise, haha, and found what would be effective and fun. Today I’m breaking down how to create content by asking yourself three specific questions and using the STEPS method.
I keep the foundational airplane stranger rule–only share what I would be comfortable sharing with a stranger on an airplane. Which as I confess in the video below, I can be an over-sharer. Now that we have established that. I ask myself three questions when planning my content, 1. What do I want to teach people? (STEPS) 2. How can I convey this in a photo? 3.When should this be shared?–then I share it.
Once I have figured out what to post I consider what STEPS category it fits into. STEPS is struggle, teach, engagement, personal, and share (results). Struggle is a vulnerable post, what is something you are struggling with that your audience (followers) can identify with you. Teach is an instructional post. This where we teach our audience how to use a product or cook a recipe. For engagement we ask a question that our audience wants to weigh in on. A personal post is to help your audience get to know you and hopefully they will comment and you are able to get to know them, too! Last, up is sharing (results). When we share results or benefits, it helps our audience believe they can do it, too. And for me that is what I am going for! What about you?
Let’s explore both of the ideas in the coming weeks and talk about dropping them into our schedule. I will also do a live scheduling with you! It will be fun. I have realized it is so easy to do week after week after removing all of the excess fluff that comes to our businesses–I imagine that is why people hire out the task of marketing.
